Tim Griffin is a business development executive for the IBM Corporation with over 25 years of telecommunications industry experience. As a subject matter expert in the telecommunications industry he has led numerous business development efforts providing technology solutions to global telecommunication companies. Within telecom, he has extensive experience in sales, marketing, and customer care and solution development. He served as a General Manager at a large US based telco for over 10 years with responsibility for the Profit and Loss in both commercial and government accounts. As an IBM executive Mr. Griffin has also developed, sold and implemented value-added services to Service Providers around the globe and has been involved in multiple first of a kind solutions. He is currently responsible for Business Development of Cloud Computing with Telco’s on a global basis.
In addition to his career in the telecommunications industry Mr. Griffin served as the Vice Chancellor of Higher Education for the State of Oregon.
Richard joined Accel in 2006, with an interest in software, mobile and internet services, and energy technologies. Rich led Accel’s investment in Angry Birds (Rovio) and serves on the boards of Atlassian, the leader in software for streamlining product development; SunRun, the leading provider of residential solar power; MoPub, a leader in mobile ad platforms; Qwilt, a provider of video optimization technology; Getjar Networks, the largest mobile development community and open mobile app store; Parature, a leader in SaaS based customer support. Rich previously led Accel’s investment and served on the Board of Admob (acquired by Google), as well as 3LM – Three Laws of Mobility, an Android enterprise startup (acquired by Motorola Mobility).
Prior to Accel, Rich was SVP/GM of Products at Openwave and previously GM of Messaging Products, and Chief Marketing Officer at Openwave. While at Openwave, Rich founded and chaired the Messaging Anti Abuse Working Group, a consortium of ISPs and technology providers working together to combat internet abuse.
Previously Rich was the Chief Marketing Officer and EVP/GM of Value-Added Services at Covad Communications, the DSL provider. Preceding Covad, he was a management consultant for McKinsey & Company, focusing on software and consumer technology. Rich started his career as a Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble
Mr. Wong holds a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Rich sits on the Board of Directors of the MIT – Stanford Venture Lab, Rich sits on the Board of Directors of the MIT CNC Entrepreneurship Program, and the CTIA Wireless Internet Caucus. At CTIA 2008, Rich was awarded a "Mobile Six" award as one of the 6 most influential individuals shaping the wireless industry by executives in the InMobile.org community.
Mr. Yu Yongfu has a deep understanding of China’s telecom, internet and new media industries, and is experienced in corporate strategy planning and start-up venture management. As an excellent team leader, Yu Yongfu has successfully led the development and changes of the company in terms of business innovation, corporate management, team construction and capital operation, resulting in UC Mobile’s rapid growth of more than 100-times in the past three years.
Mr. Chen is an established entrepreneur and investor. He has started more than a dozen companies and is the co-founder of many successful entrepreneurial ventures. He is perhaps best known as co-founder and VP of Engineering of Cascade Communications, where he was instrumental in building the company. Cascade went public in 1994 with market cap reached $10B. Mr. Chen also co-founded and acted as chairman and CEO of Arris Networks (acquired by Cascade), Ardent Communications, Navini Networks (acquired by Cisco) and Shasta Networks (acquired by Nortel). He was also previously Vice President of Technologies at Cisco Systems. The industry has recognized Mr. Chen’s operational and entrepreneurial excellence with numerous awards; such as quoted as “The Germinator” on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, the top ten entrepreneurs of 2000 by Red Herring magazine, Life Time achievement award by Optix, and Heavy Weights in Optical Networks by Light Reading.
Zhou Hongshun, Secretary General of RAC
Served as Monitoring Division Director of the State Radio Monitoring Center, Deputy Director General level Counsel, Professor-level Senior Engineer, Expert of Spectrum Management Equipment Development Joint Group of General Staff Communication Department, enjoying special government allowances and won the first prize of Science and Technology of CIC (the first project person). Elected as Secretary General of the Radio Association of China (RAC) on March 30, 2009 at the first Congress of RAC.
Prof. Linzhen Xie serves as the Standing Member of Communication Science & Technology Commission, Ministry of Industry & Information Technology (MIIT) of China, Vice President of China Mobile Communication Association (CMCA), Chairman of Chinese Mobile Phone Business Summit Forum, Chief Scientist & Executive Board Member of CECT-ChinaComm. From 1998 – 2002, he was Deputy Director - General of the Electronic and Information Product Department, Ministry of Information Industry, China. From 1994 – 1998, he was the Deputy Director – General of the Communication and System Equipment Department, Ministry of Electronic Industry, China. Prof. Xie has more than 140 international publications.
Richard Liu is the Director/Chief Representative of Xi’an City/Xi’an Hi-Tech Park in the States based in Silicon Valley. He is in charge of business promotion, cooperation and all other business related issues between the companies in the States and Xi’an city in China. Mr. Liu has tremendous experience in business development, coordination and negotiation, building alliance and strategic partnership. Before coming to Silicon Valley to set up business in 2006, Mr. Liu was the deputy director of Foreign Investment Promotion Bureau of Xi’an Hi-Tech Park, who led and coordinated numerous JV/WFOE projects, including Micron’s total $550 million investment project, Applied Materials’ total $300 million Solar/Global Support Center project and HWL’s $1 billion real estate project etc. Before permanently relocating back to China in 2004, Mr. Liu worked in a Chicago-based engineering company which supplies, designs and manufactures ash handling system for coal power plant as International Sale Manager focusing on Great China market.
Mr. Liu received MS from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and received Dual Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering department and Law School from Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Mr. Guangyuan Li is a Chinese-American with many years of strategic, management and operational experiences. Since 1985, Mr. Li had helped or involved to set up 15 joint ventures in China and USA, and served as Director, or Chairman or Vice Chairman for most of US or Sino-American joint venture companies. He is currently serving as Chairman, JSL International (Consulting Company), Senior Consultant for US companies: BodyBlocks Worldwide, LLC and senior strategic advisor for CleanTech Solution Worldwide, LLC (CTSW), and Investment Representative and Chief Senior Advisor for Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA).
Matt Cherian is the Vice President with HSBC Bank in San Jose-Saratoga. He is a career banker with twelve years commercial & retail experience in investment and corporate banking, lending and wealth management. A graduate of the Bauer School of Business at the University of Houston with majors in Economics and Finance, Matt often presents at various community organizations to discuss the latest economic & financial concerns of the day. He is passionate about traveling, local music and charitable community involvement.
